Insights from Cristian Pucheta, Operations Manager at Netway Networks and Bill Fragos, Special Counsel at Moray & Agnew, during a recent Netway Networks webinar on surviving a data breach. Watch the full session here.
In today's rapidly
evolving digital world, the risk of data breaches is more significant than
ever. Businesses of all sizes and across various sectors are facing increasing
threats from cyber attacks. But what happens when it actually happens? What should you do?
The initial response to a data breach is critical and, according to Bill, prompt action can significantly minimise the damage. Activate your data breach response plan right away if you have one, otherwise convene key stakeholders like executives, PR teams, IT staff, and legal advisors immediately to assess the compromised data and to determine your notification obligations, reporting requirements and potential legal liabilities.
To prevent further unauthorised access, Cristian recommends disconnecting compromised devices from the network (ethernet and Wi-Fi). Avoid turning off the breached devices, as this may hinder your IT team's ability to mitigate the issue. He also shares strategies for preventing data breaches and discusses the Essential Eight security controls that your business can implement to safeguard against such incidents.
